Our Vision and Mission

We aims to bridge ancient wisdom from Kamrupa with modern scientific inquiry, creating a transformative impact on global health

Our Vision

At KaviKrishna Laboratory, our vision is to bridge the ancient wisdom of Kamrupa with modern scientific inquiry, creating a transformative impact on global health. Rooted in the profound philosophy of biological altruism, our goal is to lead pioneering research in stem cell altruism and its clinical applications. We are dedicated to addressing the critical health challenges in North East India, particularly the high incidence of cancer and tuberculosis, by translating timeless knowledge into innovative healthcare solutions.

Inspired by the ancient Kamrupi mantra of vision (Kavi) to action (Krishna), we seek to harmonize traditional insights with cutting-edge science. Our aspiration is not just to advance research but to foster a collaborative environment where knowledge flows freely, bridging cultures and eras. By doing so, we aim to cultivate a new era of healthcare that is both compassionate and scientifically robust.

Our Mission

Pioneering Research: At the heart of KaviKrishna Laboratory is our unwavering commitment to cutting-edge research. We delve into the depths of stem cell altruism, exploring its intricate mechanisms and vast therapeutic potential. Our collaborations with prestigious institutions like Stanford University, USA and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, USA exemplify our dedication to advancing the frontiers of science.

These partnerships have already yielded significant insights, such as the discovery of altruistic behavior in bone marrow stem cells and their implications in cancer research. The laboratory has collaborated with Stanford University to report stem cell altruism(Das B et al. Stem Cells, 2012), and how bacteria may benefit from the altruistic behavior of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (Das B et al. Science Translational Medicine, 2013).

The laboratory is now actively engaged in cutting-edge research on stem cell altruism in collaboration with its sister laboratory The Thoreau Laboratory of Global Health at University of Massachusetts-Lowell, MA, managed by KaviKrishna USA foundation.

In July 2019, both these laboratories reported that cancer stem cells hijack the mechanism of altruistic stem cells; the work was published in Cancer Research, a leading journal in the cancer field.

Reviving Ancient Knowledge: We are devoted to reviving and integrating the ancient Kamrupa knowledge encapsulated in the JivaupakarTantra. This lost segment of the 12th-century Yogini Tantra offers profound insights into biological altruism, which we aim to weave into the fabric of contemporary scientific research. By doing so, we honor our cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern science.

Educational Leadership: KaviKrishna Laboratory is a hub for nurturing the next generation of scientists. We provide exceptional education and mentorship to PhD students, guiding them through the complexities of stem cell research. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Bikul Das, our students not only achieve academic excellence but also contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in the field.
Healthcare Advancement: Our mission extends beyond the laboratory. We are committed to translating our research into practical clinical applications that can improve healthcare outcomes in North East India. By focusing on diseases with high regional prevalence, such as cancer and tuberculosis, we strive to bring hope and healing to communities in need.

Community Support: Compassion is at the core of KaviKrishna Laboratory. We offer free treatment suggestions and palliative care services to cancer patients through our telemedicine care  initiatives. This commitment to accessible healthcare ensures that our scientific advancements benefit those who need it most, providing comfort and care to patients and their families.

Research Dissemination: Knowledge is meant to be shared. Through our publication house, KaviKrishna Prakash, we disseminate our research findings to the broader scientific community and the public. This initiative promotes the exchange of ideas and fosters a deeper understanding of stem cell altruism and its potential.

Sustainable Growth: Sustainability is crucial for the continuous advancement of our mission. Our certification as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) enables us to secure essential scientific and government grants. These resources are vital for driving our research forward and ensuring the long-term impact of our work.

At KaviKrishna Laboratory, we are more than just a research institution; we are a beacon of hope and a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern science. Through our dedicated efforts, we aim to create a healthier, more compassionate world, driven by the timeless principles of altruism and the relentless pursuit of knowledge.
